Jordan- Israeli violations in Jerusalem jeopardize any prospect for peace Tarawneh

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 19 (Petra) Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh Monday urged the government to send a stern warning to Israel that its ongoing violations in occupied Jerusalem and assaults against the Palestinian people will undermine any prospect to achieve peace in the region.
He made the remark during an emergency session in which the lawmakers voted on proposals submitted by the House's Palestine Committee and parliamentary blocs regarding the Israeli breaches against Jerusalem's Al Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif.
The House was unanimous in its support of Jordanian diplomacy, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, at international forums, rejection of the temporal and spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque and condemnation of Israeli attempts to alter the status quo of Jerusalem as a violation of the international law.
"We meet again to discuss the continued and recurrent attacks by Israeli occupation forces on the most scared sites, and its repeated attempts to undermine the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Holy Sanctuary," he told the plenum, which was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Mousa Maytah and State Minister for Media Affairs Jumana Ghneimat.
Tarawneh said that the Palestinian issue is passing through critical circumstances and systematic attempts by an occupation that seeks to impose unilateral measures as a "fait accompli.'
He reiterated the legislature's total rejection of such actions against the rights of the Palestinian people, "who suffer from the vicious injustices of the occupation authority, which required supporting the steadfastness of our people in Jerusalem and taking a firm stance that rises to the level of the danger."
Tarawneh said the House stands behind His Majesty King Abdullah's efforts to defend the Palestinian rights, and stands in the face of the "condemnable measures" of the occupation authority, calling on the government to send a message to the world that "the state of occupation is a hotbed of injustice and extremism and a reason behind regional instability due to its deeds for which it should be held accountable and criminalized."
He said the lawmakers backed the King's endeavours to rally international support for the resumption of peace efforts and solve the Palestinian issue on the basis of the declaration of a fully sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and safeguard the "sacred" right of refugees for return and compensation.
Foreign Minister Safadi said that His Majesty King Abdullah had underlined Jordan's unwavering stance that Jerusalem is a red line, and reaffirmed that the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem is a responsibility and a trust to which the King, the custodian of these holy shrines, devotes all the Kingdom's potentials.
The government also stressed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque /Al-Haram Al-Sharif is a place of worship and prayer for Muslims only, he said.
Safadi said he had summoned the Israeli ambassador to reiterate the Kingdom's condemnation and rejection of the Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and to denounce remarks by the Israeli internal security minister regarding the status quo of the holy shrine.
"I also conveyed to him a strong message to pass on to his government, mainly a demand to promptly cease all Israeli violations and attempts to change the longstanding historical and legal status quo, and to warn against the consequences of these illegal actions," the foreign minister told the lawmakers.
