(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) It has been more than a month since Oman's Al Faisal al Zubair produced his career-best performance in the opening round of the 2019 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
He followed it up with another top-ten finish in the second round at Monte Carlo and is all geared up to continue his impressive run when he tackles the third round at the Red Bull Circuit in Spielberg, Austria, this weekend.
The young BWT Lechner Racing Team driver's solid run in the Supercup follows his second successive Porsche BWT GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East title during the Gulf's winter racing season. After two rounds, Al Faisal is ranked overall ninth in the Supercup.
He said, 'I'm looking ahead to the Red Bull Ring round. It has been a great start to the season so far with two top-ten finishes.
'Unfortunately, due to my crash in Monaco and my academic commitments, I wasn't able to test at some of the tracks, which includes the Red Bull Ring.
'I guess, that will put me on the back foot. But I think we have already shown this season that we are much more confident with the car and I have the experience and can push for another top-ten finish.'
Defending champion Michael Ammermüller holds a six-point lead in the series over Turkey's Ayhancan Güven heading into the race on Sunday.
Drivers will be permitted a free practice session on the circuit on Friday with the all-important qualifying session following on Saturday. The race is scheduled for Sunday.
Overall standings (after round two): 1 Michael Ammermüller (36pts), 2 Ayhancan Güven (30), 3 Julien Andlauer (29), 9 Al Faisal al Zubair (15).
