Tunisia: Tunis Court of Appeal releases UN expert from prison

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Tunis Court of Appeal ordered the release of the United Nation expert Moncef Kartas, who was detained in Tunisia in March on "espionage" charges, reported Tunis Afrique Presse.

Sufian Sliti, spokesperson of Tunisia's anti-terrorist judiciary body, affirmed in domestic media that the specialized authorities agreed to temporarily release Kartas and imposing travel ban on him.

Kartas was detained after a probe that began in 2018, the spokesperson added.

Moncef Kartas, a member of a UN panel investigating aggressions of the UN weapons embargo on Libya, was rounded up on March 26 when he arrived in Tunis.
