UN expresses concern over death of Myanmar civilians trapped in clashes


(MENAFN) A UN spokesman declared that civilians trapped in clashes are being murdered and wounded in the most recent eruption of battles in Chin and Rakhine states of Myanmar.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed that the victims "are concerned by reported use of indiscriminate and heavy weapons in populated areas."

Dujarric added: The UN calls on all parties to the conflict to comply with their obligations under international human rights law and international humanitarian law to find a peaceful solution."

He added: "The longer this continues, the more at risk these already fragile and in-need communities across the state become."
