Filipino tourist injured when bus crashes in Thailand

(MENAFN- Asia Times) A Filipino tourist was injured when the bus she and 22 other Filipinos were in skidded off a highway in southern Thailand. The Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the bus, which was traveling from Bangkok to Phuket, skidded off a highway in Chumphon province and ended up in a ditch in the early hours of Monday morning.

Rescue workers were notified of the incident on Phetkasem Road and quickly arrived at the scene. They had to use hydraulic cutters to free the bus driver, who was taken to Chumphon Hospital, The Thaiger reported.

Ambassador to Thailand Mary Jo A Bernardo-Aragon said one Filipino woman sustained minor injuries in the accident and was released after receiving medical treatment. The other 22 Filipinos were shaken from the experience but escaped serious injury. All 23 Filipinos later resumed their journey to Phuket.

Meanwhile, three Filipino women were arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, for fraudulently soliciting funds from tourists for a children's charity that police say does not operate in the country.

The Filipinas have been charged with colluding to raise funds without permission, being foreign nationals working without permission and having no work permits.
