Peace monitor: South Sudan parties recruit child troopers despite truce


(MENAFN) South Sudan's warring parties resume to recruit and deploy child troopers despite approving to stop the action, according to a body working with monitoring recently signed a truce.

Augostino Njoroge, interim chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) confirmed that a stakeholder gathering in Juba that truce monitors have collected evidence of non- compliance on the recruitment of child troopers by warring parties.

Njoroge added: "CTSAMVM has reported that the overall security trend is one of the improvements with parties demonstrating an effort to comply with the terms of the peace agreement."

"However, it is concerning that CTSAMVM reports evidence of non-compliance in the recruitment of child soldiers".
