Iraqi PM orders army to further deploy on Syrian border


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- Iraq's Prime Minister Adel Abdulmahdi directed armed forces on Sunday to boost deployment on the Syrian border to stop any infiltration by terrorist groups.
In his capacity as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Abdulmahdi issued directives to take necessary measures to secure the borders and prevent any terrorist groups from infiltrating, stated the Iraqi government.
The orders given are to help secure the borders and prevent infiltrations through strengthening the border watch on land and from the air, while also providing the needs of the Border Guards forces.
The statement also added that Abdulmahdi was briefed of situation on the borders by Commander of the Border Guards Lieutenant General Hamed Abdullah, who assured necessary measures are being taken as camera installations are underway.
The Iraqi-Syrian borders are among the most critical security challenges that threaten the security situation in Iraq from so-called Islamic State who were centered on the other side of the border. (end) ahh.aq
