QU begins introductory meetings for new students


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar University (QU) has launched introductory meetings for new students for the new academic semester.
The meetings, which are expected to be attended by about 4,300 students, will continue until August 16.
The events aim to introduce the students to the university environment, the regulations and rules at the various faculties and departments, and the services provided to them throughout their academic career at the university, as well as ways to select courses and the necessary academic guidance, and the facilities and services available to the student community.
Assistant Vice-President for Admission Department Noof al-Kuwari said that the introductory meetings are mandatory for all new students and is an important window to see all the information that students may need during university studies.
Al-Kuwari explained that these meetings seek to introduce the new student to the service departments at Qatar University, and to tour campus buildings and learn about university policies in addition to providing students with the opportunity to register courses in co-operation with the academic adviser.
Al-Kuwari warned that the students, who do not attend the introductory meetings without presenting an acceptable excuse, will be disqualified from this semester, with the possibility of applying again to the university for the next semester.
According to the schedule, Qatar University allocated August 12 for new male students admitted to the faculties of arts and sciences, administration and economics, law, medicine, Shariah and Islamic studies, and August 13 for male students admitted to colleges of education and engineering.
The introductory meetings for female students will be held during the period from 14 to 16 August.
The first day is allocated to those admitted in the Faculty of Arts and Law, the second to the Faculties of Management and Economics, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Pharmacy and the third day to the Faculties of Medicine, Science, Sharia and Islamic Studies.
Qatar University also adopted a new mechanism for students transferred from other universities and accepted for the fall of 2018, where special days have been set for them to attend the introductory meetings in particular to provide academic guidance. Each student will be informed of the date and time.
