China warns Taiwan of 'punishment of history' for separatist attempts

(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping has threatened Taiwan of being hit with the "punishment of history" over any separatist move.

The president declared China to call for "peaceful reunification of the motherland," allowing Taiwan residents to share benefits of the developments of the nation.

In his speech to parliament at an annual session, President Xi stated "it is a shared aspiration of all Chinese people and in their basic interests to safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and realize China's complete reunification."

He then warned "any actions and tricks to split China are doomed to failure and will meet with the people's condemnation and the punishment of history."
