Egyptian Court Sentences 102 People to 10 Years in Prison for Murder


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Cairo May 03 - Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Saturday 102 supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi to 10 years in prison and another two to seven years on charges of murder and riot.

State-run Al Ahram newspaper reported today that the defendants were incarcerated last July following a protest in Cairo's Al-Zaher district. They were charged with attempted murder inciting murder threatening violence and sabotaging private and public property. The protests saw the killing of one person.

It is the latest in a series of verdicts relating to the demonstrations staged by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. Last Tuesday the court sentenced 29 people to five years in prison and a fine of LE 100000 for staging illegal protests. The defendants were incarcerated since December 2013.
