Saudi suffers USD692m loss from consumer cybercrime


(MENAFN) Symantec's latest report showed that Saudi Arabia had suffered a USD692 million loss in the past 12 months due to consumer cybercrime, reported Arab News. The report revealed that 40 percent of the Kingdom's social networking users have been victims to cybercrime on social networking platforms. Moreover, 20 percent of the social networking users in the Arab Gulf country have been victims of social or mobile cybercrime in the period, compared with 21 percent worldwide. Over 3.6 million people in Saudi Arabia fell victims to cybercrime in the past 12 months, suffering an average of USD195 in direct financial losses. Over the past 12 months, direct costs linked to consumer cybercrime reached USD110 billion globally. Also on global basis, 18 adults become victims of cybercrime every second, resulting in over 1.5 million cybercrime victims each day, whereas in the past 12 months, around 556 million adults experienced cybercrime.
