The project to expand section 1 La Chorrera – Santa Cruz to six lanes, in the province of Panama Oeste, better known as the beach corridor , is 91% complete. This was reported on Sunday by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), which detailed that the pedestrian bridges of Villa Mireya in Capira and Loma Brígida in the La Pesa sector, La Chorrera district, have been installed. They also enabled the return to the area located in El Espino, towards the interior of the country.
MOP explained that this 91.43% progress includes the total construction of the 1.7-kilometer-long viaduct, with a 26.50-meter-wide platform that houses six lanes: three towards the interior and three towards the capital city. The viaduct was officially inaugurated on September 3, 2024, and cost 282 million dollars. In addition, they have completed the total rehabilitation of the lanes of the Pan-American Highway from the Nazareno sector to La Pesa.
Currently, work is being carried out to rehabilitate the lanes under the viaduct , which run from the interior towards the Arraiján – La Chorrera highway, where longitudinal and transverse storm drainage works are being carried out, as well as removal of the deteriorated asphalt layer and concrete slabs to be replaced. They are also working on the construction of the roundabout style traffic circle that includes three lanes and ten branches that will provide access to all sectors, which is located at the entrance to the center of La Chorrera with the entrance and exit of the highway.“Once this first phase is completed, the rehabilitation of the second phase will begin, which includes the two lanes that connect to the interior of the country,” said MOP.
