Army Deployed In Islamabad With Shoot-On-Sight Orders Amid PTI Protest Unrest


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Islamabad: The federal government has deployed the army in the capital to manage the escalating unrest during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests. According to sources, troops have been stationed at key locations, including constitution Avenue and Parliament House. Security forces have been authorized to use lethal force against agitators on sight.

The Interior Ministry issued a formal notification under Article 245, granting the army authority to impose curfews and ensure law and order. The notification emphasized stringent measures against lawbreakers and reiterated the shoot-on-sight orders for those inciting violence.

Casualties and Injuries Reported

The protests turned violent on the Srinagar Highway, where rioters reportedly ran over Rangers personnel, leading to the martyrdom of four Rangers. Five other Rangers and two police officers sustained severe injuries.

Security sources confirm that attacks on law enforcement have resulted in the deaths of six personnel-four Rangers and two police officers-while over 100 police officials have been injured, many critically.

Clashes at Hazara Motorway Interchange

Separately, a violent confrontation at the Hazara Motorway Interchange left 22 Gujranwala police officers injured, including SSP Farooq Bhutta. Officers were attempting to intercept PTI convoys arriving from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when they faced stone-pelting and physical assaults.

Among the injured are one sub-inspector, two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), and 18 constables. They were shifted to DHQ Hospital, where one officer remains in critical condition. SSP Farooq Bhutta, stationed with Gujranwala Petrol Police, was injured alongside 21 officers from Mandi Bahauddin District.

On November 23, during a meeting in Peshawar, the leadership finalized preparations for the November 24 protest and reaffirmed their determination to proceed with the march and sit-in, emphasizing, "This time, there will be no turning back.
