TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 1. Uzbekistan
will participate in the 29th session of the conference of the
Parties to the UN Framework convention on Climate Change (COP29) in
Azerbaijan, Trend reports via the
Ministry of energy of Uzbekistan.
As part of COP29, the government of Uzbekistan will present a
National Pavilion that reflects the traditional principles and
technologies underlying Uzbek culture, history, and unique
environment.
The pavilion, designed in the style of a traditional Uzbek
courtyard (hovli), will convey the atmosphere of an internal
courtyard, which has been the heart of every Uzbek home for
generations. Here, nature becomes a part of the home: greenery and
vine-covered areas create shade and comfort, while traditional
materials and ancient building methods embody ideals of
sustainability and environmental friendliness.
The two-week conference program will include high-level plenary
sessions, a Summit of World Leaders on Climate Change, Executive
Council meetings, coordination meetings, a Youth Climate Forum, a
Global Climate Action Summit, the 17th Nairobi Program of Work
Coordinators' Forum, round tables, and seminars on topics such as
finance, investment, trade, green energy, technology and
innovation, health, human development and youth, food, agriculture,
water resources, nature and biodiversity, transport and tourism,
gender equality, and more.
A number of initiatives are planned for COP29, including the
organization of over 20 events within the National Pavilion with
the participation of the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry
of Energy, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as
various bilateral and multilateral meetings and the signing of
agreements with regional and international partners and donors.
Specifically, the following key events are planned within the
National Pavilion:
- an official signing ceremony for the International Youth
Strategy in collaboration with the International Public Fund
"Zamin," featuring representatives from all participating countries
as well as presentations of environmental educational projects and
initiatives.
- a meeting of the Ministers of the Turkic Environmental Forum
from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO).
- an event regarding the Climate Migration Declaration (Silk
Road Declaration) with member countries of the UN International
Organization for Migration (IOM), planned as a joint initiative
between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
- an event for the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for the Aral Sea
region, organized in collaboration with the UNDP coordination
office in Uzbekistan.
Overall, active participation of the Uzbek national delegation
is planned in negotiation sessions and other key and ancillary
meetings of the conference.
In a mere ten days, Azerbaijan will host COP29, the decision
about which was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on
December 11 last year.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an
agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992
to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system.
COP-the Conference of the Parties-is the highest legislative body
overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on
Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the
Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held
annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's
Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
