Azerbaijan Updates Mine Clearing Progress In Liberated Territories


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has found and defused an additional plethora of mines and unexploded ordnances in the country's liberated territories placed by Armenian forces, a source in ANAMA told Trend .

The source said that 141 anti-personnel and 64 anti-tank mines, as well as 625 unexploded ordnances, were found and defused in Tartar, Aghdam, Aghdara, Lachin, Fuzuli, Shusha, Khojaly, Khankendi, Kalbajar, Khojavand, Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan on October 14-20.

According to the source, 470.2 hectares of land have been cleared of mines in the reporting period.

Following the liberation of its lands, Azerbaijan began operations in November 2020 to clean its lands of mines, booby traps, and other weaponry left behind by illegal Armenian forces.

From 2020 to the present, 379 people have been killed by mines in Eastern Zangezur and Karabakh, with 70 dead and 309 injured. Meanwhile, 161,000 hectares have been cleared of mines in these regions, with 157,000 mines and unexploded ordnance neutralized.
