BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 21. Kyrgyzstan's
natural gas consumption reached 303 million cubic meters as of
October 1, 2024, an increase of 55.9 million cubic meters compared
to the same period in 2023, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy.
According to the ministry, for 2024, the projected gas import is
set at 500 million cubic meters. The country's gas supply rate rose
from 38 percent in 2023 to 40 percent in the first half of 2024,
with 402,000 subscribers currently connected to gas services.
To enhance gas supply, plans are underway to provide gas to five
residential areas, including Novopavlovka, Bakay-Ata, Novopokrovka,
and Tokoldosh. By October 1, 2024, four districts had been
successfully supplied with gas, adding 13,454 new subscribers.
Additionally, a project for subsidized financing of gas supply
in Bishkek and the Chuy region has been approved. As of October 1,
2024, 167 subscribers have connected to natural gas under this
initiative. The total amount allocated for these connections so far
is 19.4 million soms (approximately $226,900). This initiative is
part of a broader project estimated at 1 billion soms ($11.6
million), featuring an 8 percent interest rate over a maximum
period of 24 months.
Earlier this week, Kyrgyzstan's Chairman of the Cabinet of
Ministers, Akylbek Japarov, announced that Russian Gazprom has
invested approximately $374 million to upgrade the country's gas
infrastructure. Gazprom Kyrgyzstan, a 100 percent subsidiary of
Gazprom, oversees the nation's gas transportation and distribution
systems, focusing on supply, distribution, and the expansion of gas
pipeline networks and storage facilities.
