Azerbaijan Discloses Number Of Registered Guests For COP29 (UPDATE)

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. Over 28,000 guests have registered for COP29 to date, Chairperson of the Board, Chief Operating Officer of the COP29 Azerbaijan Operational Company Narmin Jarchalova said during a media tour of the Baku Olympic Stadium today, Trend reports.

"About 2,700 of them are representatives of the media. The rest are guests from official delegations of NGOs, international organizations, and countries," she noted.

Jarchalova emphasized that this figure is higher than that of the events in Glasgow and Sharm El Sheikh.

"However, this figure is an indication for today. The registration process is ongoing and participation rates are increasing every day. Given that most delegations typically apply to register for events closer to the event date, there will be a corresponding increase in these numbers," she added.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP-the Conference of the Parties-is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin, with its secretariat in Bonn.
