Palestine Information Center reports notable increase in violence in occupied West Bank

(MENAFN) The Palestine Information Center (Maati) has reported a notable increase in violence in the occupied West Bank, with 330 documented incidents of shootings and armed clashes since October 7. This surge coincides with the ongoing "Al-Aqsa Flood" operations that began in the Gaza Strip on the same date, underscoring a significant escalation in resistance activities across the region.

The report indicates that resistance fighters have escalated their use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), targeting Israeli military personnel and vehicles more frequently. Over the past week, these operations have led to the deaths of two Israelis and injuries to around 30 others, impacting areas in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and within Israel itself.

According to the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), there were 114 recorded acts of resistance from October 4 to October 10. This period saw 24 shooting incidents and armed confrontations involving resistance fighters and Israeli soldiers, in addition to two stabbing attacks. Notably, resistance fighters detonated 13 explosive devices in retaliation against the frequent incursions by Israeli forces into Palestinian cities and refugee camps in the West Bank.

Moreover, violent clashes erupted at 61 different sites, featuring the use of Molotov cocktails and fireworks, alongside efforts to confront settlers at five locations. In the past week, six demonstrations were organized to protest against the ongoing violence and atrocities committed by the occupation, particularly in light of the genocidal actions inflicted upon the people of Gaza over the past year.

In a related incident, Israeli occupation forces arrested at least ten Palestinians across various locations in the West Bank, including a woman from Jericho. The Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club reported that Israeli forces carried out field investigations involving approximately 60 Palestinians in the city of Halhul in Hebron and in the town of Qusra in Nablus.

These arrests have been accompanied by harassment and intimidation directed at Palestinians and their families, as well as widespread vandalism and destruction of homes. The ongoing violence, coupled with aggressive tactics employed by the Israeli military, has further deteriorated the already precarious situation for Palestinians living under occupation. This highlights the pressing need for international attention and intervention to address the crisis.
