Armenia Persists In Significantly Violating Espoo Convention Obligations


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16. Armenia persists in significantly violating the requirements of the Espoo Convention, which mandates environmental impact assessments in border regions, co-founder of the“Environmental Protection First” coalition Amin Mammadov said during a briefing, Trend reports.

The briefing addressed the illegal activities of Armenia's mining industry, which are harming the ecology of Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus as a whole.

Mammadov highlighted that both Azerbaijani government agencies and civil society have consistently protested against these violations.

Based on satellite images, the coalition compiled a report detailing the activities of Armenian industrial enterprises in border areas with Azerbaijan. This report was distributed to accredited diplomatic representatives and media in Azerbaijan. Mammadov said that the coalition, "Environmental Protection First", is calling on Armenia to grant access to its mining facilities for monitoring by experts from Azerbaijan and other nations.
