Egyptian agricultural exports increase, contributing to growth of national exports
(MENAFN) During the first half of this year, Egypt's total agricultural exports increased significantly, reaching 4.9 million tons. Alaa Farouk, the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, announced that the value of these agricultural exports rose to USD2.9 billion, marking a USD600 million increase compared to the same period last year. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Minister highlighted ongoing support for the export system, aligning with the presidential goal of achieving USD100 billion in exports from all sectors by 2030. He emphasized that the agricultural sector is a fundamental component of Egypt's national income.
The Ministry of Agriculture reported that Egyptian agricultural products are now exported to more than 160 countries, encompassing over 350 different agricultural commodities. This achievement comes despite facing regional and international challenges. The overall export performance of Egyptian commodities also showed robust growth, with exports totaling approximately USD12.912 billion during the first four months of 2024, up from USD11.782 billion in the same period of 2023, reflecting a 10 percent increase.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry highlighted in May that the largest markets for Egyptian commodity exports during the first four months of this year included Saudi Arabia, with exports valued at USD1.096 billion, up from USD993.6 million during the same period in 2023. Other significant markets included Turkey, with exports worth USD1.076 billion compared to USD900.5 million, Italy with USD793.1 million compared to USD785.5 million, the United Arab Emirates with USD735 million compared to USD460 million, and the United States, which saw exports increase to USD716.2 million from USD587.1 million.
