Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company Talks New Transportation Mode Along Middle Corridor

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 5. The Mercury 1 ferry
vessel, which is part of the Azerbaijan Caspian shipping Company
(ASCO) fleet, has transported 26 trucks from China across the
Caspian Sea, traveling from Kuryk port to Baku port via the Middle
Corridor, Trend
reports via ASCO.
"In May, three trucks (80 tons each) were transported from China
through this route in a pilot operation. Since July 3, such
deliveries have become regular," ASCO stated.
ASCO emphasized that the trucks delivered to Baku continued on
to Georgia, and then to Türkiye for delivery to EU countries.
"The multimodal Middle Corridor has established another way of
cargo transportation on the East-West route, increasing its cargo
turnover," the shipping company noted.
The Middle Corridor has been up and running since 2014, but in
the past two years, it has kicked into high gear due to
skyrocketing demand.
In 2023, 2.7 million tons of cargo passed through this route,
representing an 86 percent growth from 2022. In 2024, the cargo
flow may exceed 4 million tons.
