Azerbaijan Plans To Create Green Energy Zone In Its Liberated Territories - Minister


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ZANGILAN, Azerbaijan, May 30. Azerbaijan plansto create a green energy zone in its liberated territories,Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan andPresident of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev said, Trend reports.

Babayev made the remark at today's 3rd International Conferenceon Humanitarian Demining on the topic“Mitigating EnvironmentalImpact of Landmines - Resource Mobilization for Safe and GreenFuture” in Zangilan.

"Following the COP29 goals, Azerbaijan aims to ensure climateresilience in its demining and reconstruction efforts. Our goal isto create a green energy zone in the liberated territories. Byrestoring ecosystems and reintroducing sustainable practices, weaim to turn these lands into green zones. We are utilizinginnovative technologies and approaches, such as 'smart cities' and'smart villages', to ensure minimal emissions," he explained.

The minister added that for nearly three decades, the occupationof Azerbaijan's territories left a destructive legacy of landminesand unexploded ordnance, turning fertile, biodiverse landscapesinto dead zones.

He emphasized that these hidden threats not only endanger humanlives but also hinder sustainable development.

To note, the 3rd International Humanitarian Demining Conferenceis attended by over 300 delegates from 75 countries.

The participants include high-ranking officials from variouscountries, senior UN headquarters staff, representatives ofreputable international organizations and demining centers fromdifferent countries, as well as officials from accrediteddiplomatic missions in Azerbaijan.
