"Azerbaijan, in fact, over the past two years has donetremendous work in the direction of digitalization and generaldiversification of the economic model from an exclusivelyresource-oriented to a knowledge economy. The fact that a year agoPresident of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed adecree on the creation of a special tax regime createsprerequisites for international technology companies to beinterested in the country," he said.
According to the StrategEast president, the only difference isthat Azerbaijan started this development when the western part ofthe world, which is the main customer, entered the stage ofrecession, and therefore the technology companies themselves arestruggling to keep their budgets there.
"Azerbaijan has an opportunity to compensate for this by thefact that Azerbaijan can become a customer itself and is, in fact,a customer for many technology companies, because both the telecom,oil and gas and banking sectors need digital solutions. And it hascreated new jobs by hiring local specialists by internationalcompanies attracted to the country," he added.
