Peacekeepers' Withdrawal From Karabakh Meets New Realities In Region - Official


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 22. The withdrawal ofRussian peacekeepers from Karabakh reflects the region's newreality, Russia's Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said to localmedia, Trend reports.

According to Peskov, it addresses the present conditions in theregion since Armenia acknowledged Azerbaijan's borders in 1991.

"Since the geopolitical realities there have changed, there areno more functions left for peacekeepers," the Kremlin spokespersonsaid.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, Russian presidential spokesman DmitryPeskov confirmed the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeepingcontingent from Karabakh.

Azerbaijani Presidential Assistant - Head of the Foreign PolicyDepartment of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev notedearlier, regarding the information on the withdrawal of Russianpeacekeepers from the territory of Azerbaijan, that the highestleadership of both countries has decided on the early withdrawal ofpeacekeepers of the Russian Federation temporarily deployed on theterritory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, according to thetrilateral statement signed on November 10, 2020. The process hasalready begun; the Ministries of Defense of Azerbaijan and Russiaare taking appropriate measures to implement this decision, headded.

To note, Russian peacekeepers left the Khudaveng monasterycomplex in Kyalbajar on April 10. Currently, the Khudavengmonastery is guarded by Azerbaijani police.
