Russian Strike On Chernihiv Leaves 144 Injured - Police Update


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The injury toll from today's Russian missile attack that targeted the main square in Chernihiv has increased to 144.

This was reported by the national Police , Ukrinform saw.

"On August 19, the enemy launched a missile attack on the center of Chernihiv. As of 19:30, seven civilian deaths were confirmed, including a child. Also, 144 injured local residents sought medical help. Among them were 15 children and 15 police officers," the police said.

According to reports, law enforcers are inspecting the buildings damaged by the strike. In total, nearly 500 apartments suffered damage. The police also recorded damage to 64 civilian vehicles.

"We have to clearly document this war crime so that it goes into the evidence trove on Russia's crimes against humanity," emphasized Ihor Klymenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs, who arrived in Chernihiv.

According to the police, as a result of an enemy strike, the roof of the local Drama Theater collapsed and a fire started. The roof of one of the houses nearby was also caught ablaze. Rescuers promptly put out the fires.

The blast wave damaged cars, as well as windows and doors in nearby residential blocks, shops, and other civil infrastructure objects.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Saturday, August 19, the Russians launched a missile attack on Chernihiv. Seven people were killed and 140 were injured, according to initial reports.

A large share of injured residents were driving their vehicles, crossing the road, as well as returning home from a church service.
