Moscow offers using national currencies in trade settlements to Doha

(MENAFN) According to Russian Ambassador to Qatar Dmitry Dogadkin, Moscow has recommended to Doha a move to the use of national currencies in trade settlements, and the sides are actively working on the concept.

“Our cooperation in investments is expanding. We are successfully developing our partnership with the Russian Direct Investment Fund. A number of joint projects worth more than 160 billion rubles, or 7.2 billion Qatari riyals ($1.9 billion), are being worked on,” Dogadkin informed news agency Sputnik on Monday.

as stated by the ambassador, Russia-Qatar trade has been increasing and will reach USD19.23 million in the first three months of this year.

He stated that Moscow and Doha saw transportation and logistics cooperation as a potential cooperative project, notably in the execution of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Despite global geopolitical concerns, Russia's commerce with Persian Gulf nations has been growing as various countries take moves to enhance economic connections, including working on new payment channels that would bypass the American currency, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously remarked.
