Suicide bomber kills more than 44 at Pakistan political rally


(MENAFN) More than 44 people were murdered and nearly 200 injured when suicide bomber blew himself up on Sunday at a diplomatic rally in Bajaur, north-west Pakistan neighboring Afghanistan, a previous stronghold of army.

The explosion happened throughout a convention held by the hard-hitting spiritual party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with senior party representatives stated to be between the deceased.

“We were listening to a bayan when a powerful explosion knocked me unconscious,” eye-witness Rahim Shah informed a news agency. He stated that when he got back his consciousness, there was blood all over the place.

“People were screaming and even shots were fired."

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali assured the deceased toll, while area law enforcement officer, Nazir Khan, stated that domestic rest home had announced a condition of emergency due to the amount of injured. Military helicopters were utilized to assist in moving the wounded.
