Beijing inks debatable agreement with Solomon Islands

(MENAFN) Solomon Islands Premier Manasseh Sogavare took a trip to Beijing on Monday to ink nine two-sided contracts on economic, technical as well as policing collaboration with his Chinese equal, Prime Minister, Li Qiang, in addition to Leader Xi Jinping.

The contracts contained a combined declaration issued on Tuesday confirming the two nations` recent “comprehensive strategic partnership,” also, a contract to “enhance cooperation on law enforcement and security matters” in which China promised to keep on backing the Solomon Islands with law enforcement drill as well as gear through 2025.

Beijing has formerly trained and provided copy weapons as well as uprising-control gear to the island nation’s law enforcement force, together with water cannon automobiles.

Solomon Islands confirmed its backing for the One-China strategy in the joint declaration, which contained an obvious suggestion to Japan to “prudently handle issues such as the discharge of nuclear contaminated water” from the Fukushima breakdown into the ocean, a strategy China has long been against, as well as a jab at the United States and the United Kingdom plan for offering Australia a nuclear submarine.
