European Parliament's Cmtees Express Concern Over Migrants' Situation In Libya

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, July 6 (KUNA) -- The European Parliament's Committees on civil liberties, Justice and Interior Affairs and the Subcommittee on Human Rights, Thursday expressed deep concern about deteriorating human rights situation of migrants in Libya.
The three Committees in a joint statement called on the European Commission to urgently revise its approach towards Libya.
They expressed alarm by the final report of the UN Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya which concludes there are grounds to believe a wide array of war crimes and crimes against humanity have been committed by State security forces and armed militia groups .
Parallel State authorities are emerging and in this polarising context, armed groups that have been implicated in allegations of torture, arbitrary detention, trafficking, the representative of the UN Fact Finding Mission Chaloka Beyani told the EP committees.
The Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights Udo Bullmann said: "Based on the findings of the UN report, the EU needs to urgently revise its approach towards Libya. Human dignity and human rights must be at the core of the EU external policies." (end)
