Egypt And Unido Discuss Industrial Development Strategy
(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's Minister of Trade and industry Ahmed Samir met with Deputy to the Director General of UNIDO Fatou Haidara on Saturday, to discuss the National Strategy for Industrial Development. The meeting reviewed the partnership program between Egypt and UNIDO, as well as current and planned cooperation projects.
The minister said that the meeting dealt with the latest developments in Egypt's National Strategy for Industrial Development, as UNIDO is a major partner in preparing the strategy. He highlighted the ministry's keenness to benefit from the expertise of international institutions in preparing the strategy, including UNIDO, the German GIZ, and the World Bank, with regard to technical and advisory support.
Samir elaborated that the first phase of the national strategy for industrial development has been completed and work is underway on the second phase. He noted that the strategy is a distinct model of cooperation and partnership between the ministry, international organisations, and the business community.
For her part, Fatou Haidara said that the organisation supports the priorities of the government of Egypt with regard to achieving industrial development.
She stressed the organisation's keenness to enhance Arab cooperation, especially in areas of industrial policies and benefiting from Egyptian industrial experiences in achieving regional integration.
Haidara pointed out that UNIDO appreciates Egypt's success in organising the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP27, and supports Egypt in its participation in the upcoming conference, COP28, which will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
Haidara invited Ahmed Samir to participate in the UNIDO General Conference, which will be held in Cairo at the end of next November. She also said that the Director General of UNIDO will pay an official visit to Egypt during the coming period to review the latest developments in joint cooperation projects.
