(MENAFN) Pegasus Airlines, a low-cost carrier based in Türkiye, has announced its ambitious goal of increasing its total capacity by 20 percent this year, as revealed by the company's CEO during the 79th International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit in Istanbul. Guliz Ozturk, the CEO, shared the company's growth plans, stating that they aim to surpass 100 aircraft by Türkiye's 2023 centennial and continue expanding in the future.
To achieve this growth target, Pegasus Airlines has outlined its aircraft acquisition plans. Ozturk stated that they anticipate receiving ten A321neo aircraft by the end of 2023, followed by an additional 21 in 2024 and 11 in 2025. These new aircraft will enable the airline to expand its fleet and increase its operational capabilities.
Pegasus Airlines demonstrated exceptional performance in 2022, achieving the highest operational profitability worldwide. Despite the challenges faced by the country, such as the devastating earthquakes that struck southern Türkiye in February, the airline maintained its strong performance in the first quarter of 2023.
The airline's positive trajectory is reflected in its capacity and passenger numbers. According to the latest data, Pegasus Airlines experienced a remarkable 32 percent increase in capacity and a 31 percent rise in the number of passengers during the period of January to April. These encouraging figures underscore the company's ability to attract customers and meet growing travel demands.
