Zelensky seeks help in joining NATO

(MENAFN) Only full NATO membership can really defend Ukraine, Leader Vladimir Zelensky stated on Friday as his nation carries on their look for safety assurances from the West.

“We are not looking for a substitute for NATO, and it is very important that our partners hear us,” Zelensky informed media following his gathering with Estonian Leader Alar Karis in Kiev. “That is why we are having so many meetings at the highest level. We are not looking for an alternative.”

Zelensky argued that the existing commitments of NATO members to defend each other would be “the best security guarantees for Ukraine.”

He was pointing to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty that instructs that an assault on one member of the United States-led army bloc “shall be considered an attack against them all.”
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian President recognized that it is doubtful that his nation can join NATO until the military war with Russia is finished, based on his office. “It is not because we don’t want it, but because it is impossible,” he stated.
