Egyptian, Israeli Military Chiefs Discuss Border Incident


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, June 3 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Defense Mohammad Zaki initiated a phone call with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant to discuss the ramification of the deadly exchange of fire that took place at a border crossing point on Saturday morning.
The two military top brass explored ways to strengthen security coordination and prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future, the Egyptian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The conversation also dealt with expression of condolences over the victims of the incident, according to the statement.
In an earlier statement, the ministry said an Egyptian police officer, while tracking down drug smugglers across the borders, exchanged fire with the Israeli border guards, killing three of them and wounding two others. (pickup previous)
