Former Vice President Mike Pence Visits Iowa as He Weighs Presidential Run for 2024

(MENAFN) Former Vice President Mike Pence is visiting Iowa as part of his book tour, as he considers whether to run for president in 2024. Pence has visited early primary states, including Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, several times this month, stating that he's received "a lot of encouragement" to join the Republican primary field. He indicated that he will decide in the coming weeks.

Pence said in a recent Fox News interview that to win back America, the focus needs to be on securing the country at home and abroad and bringing back the economy for working-class families. While testing the waters in Iowa, his visit was overshadowed by a federal judge's order calling for his testimony in a special counsel investigation into former President Donald Trump's effort to reverse the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

A federal judge in Washington recently ruled that Pence must testify before a grand jury. Pence has vowed to continue fighting, arguing that the Constitution's "speech or debate" clause offers him protection. Pence said that he is evaluating the judge's order and that he has nothing to hide, having written and spoken extensively about that day and the days leading up to it.

Pence's visit to Iowa comes after campaign stops from declared candidates Trump and Nikki Haley, with mounting speculation that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will soon announce his candidacy.

Pence has three stops in Iowa on Wednesday, meeting with the West Side Conservative Club near Des Moines and then traveling east to Cedar Rapids for events in Linn County and Johnson County. In recent speeches while promoting his new book, Pence has discussed his faith and how he is leaning on prayer as he decides his political future. Pence said that faith is the foundation of freedom and "renewing" that understanding "will preserve our freedom and lead America to a boundless future."
