Russian Foreign Minister on Iran-Azerbaijan reconciliation

(MENAFN) During a news conference held in Moscow on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed his hopes that the current friction between Iran and Azerbaijan is going to be resolved soon. Lavrov claimed that Russia is willing to provide any necessary assistance to facilitate the reconciliation process between the two countries.

When asked about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, Lavrov mentioned that Russia is closely monitoring the ongoing negotiations between Iran and various Western countries. He emphasized that the resumption of full-fledged implementation of the agreements on Iran's nuclear program is a shared goal.

Lavrov also highlighted that the world is still waiting for the United States to fulfill its obligations under the nuclear deal, including the lifting of all illegal sanctions against Iran. The Iran nuclear deal, signed in 2015, involved Iran and the permanent members of the United Nation Security Council, which include the US, United Kingdom, Russia, France, and China, as well as Germany and the European Union. The deal aimed to limit nuclear research that could lead to the development of weapons in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
