Amman, March 20 (Petra) - Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Brazil's Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira Monday said Jordan and Brazil would work 'intensively' to expand economic, investment, tourism and security cooperation.
Safadi and Vieira discussed over the phone ways to expand cooperation in fertiliser industries, agriculture, tourism and food security between the two countries, whose trade exchange volume increased from $418 million in 2021 to $557 million in 2022 driven by an increase in Brazil's import of potash from Jordan.
They reviewed mechanisms for continuing cooperation in combating terrorism through the 'Aqaba Operation,' where Brazil participated with the Kingdom in organising a meeting to combat terrorism in Latin America in Jordan in December 2022.
They discussed the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories, where Safadi commended the Brazilian government's support for the Palestinians and their right to an independent, sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the lines of June 4, 1967.
Safadi and Vieira warned of the continued deterioration of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Safadi and Vieira discussed Jordan's efforts to de-escalate the tension and resume negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution.
Minister Vieira affirmed Brazil's support for Jordan's efforts to uphold regional security and stability and the 'importance' of the Kingdom's role in caring for and protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
Safadi explained the Jordanian initiative to solve the Syrian crisis through direct Arab-Syrian involvement according to the 'step-for-step methodology.'
Safadi noted the 'centrality' of Brazil's role in Latin America and appreciated its positions on Arab issues, saying that Jordan is keen to strengthen bilateral ties.
