Turkish Minister Hails Iran-Saudi Agreement as Boost to Muslim World, Regional Cooperation


(MENAFN) The recent agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to repair their ties after seven years of estrangement has received praise from the Turkish foreign minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu. In a telephone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Cavusoglu expressed his appreciation for the deal and noted that it would bolster the Muslim world and enhance cooperation among Muslim governments to tackle regional issues.

Amir Abdollahian, in turn, highlighted the importance of constructive interactions between adjacent and regional nations in paving the way for the emergence of regional peace and security as well as worldwide cooperation. The agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, reached on March 10 after several days of intense discussions in China, includes the reestablishment of diplomatic ties and the reopening of embassies and missions within two months.

In a joint statement, Iran and Saudi Arabia emphasized the need to uphold national sovereignty and refrain from meddling in one another's internal affairs. They also reiterated their unwavering intention, along with China, to exert their greatest efforts to advance regional and global peace and security.

During their conversation, the senior diplomats from Iran and Turkey also discussed ways to deepen ties and matters of mutual concern in the region. The website of the Foreign Ministry reported that they also spoke on the most recent status of relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia has been seen as a positive development in a region that has been plagued by conflicts and tensions.
