Doha: Carrefour Qatar announced yesterday its support and sponsorship of the first-ever school football tournament organised by the Education Above All Foundation (EAA).

The event will take place today, March 10, at Doha College campus, where 34 schools will compete at the 'Goals4Good' tournament consisting of a football and art competition to support selected EAA Foundation projects aiming to help the world's most vulnerable and marginalised children.

Carrefour Qatar recognises education as a critical cornerstone for societal progress. As such, sponsoring the school tournament presents an opportunity for them to showcase its unwavering commitment and close ties to the community.

In addition, this sponsorship reinforces the strategic partnership between Carrefour Qatar and the EAA Foundation for three consecutive years, and embodies the true spirit of collaboration. Through this partnership over the last three years, Carrefour Qatar reached a significant milestone by collecting more than QR10 million in donations for the benefit of the EAA Foundation's Together programme.

Laurent Hausknecht, Carrefour Regional Director said:“We are delighted to take part and support this unique school football tournament and work closely with our strategic partner, the EAA Foundation. This tournament brings communities together, strengthens social ties, and celebrates football, a widely popular sport, and especially in Qatar with its historical success in hosting the most recent World Cup 2022.”

“In Carrefour Qatar, we see ourselves as an integral part of the social fabric, encourage and support our communities, and see sports as one of the best ways to realize this vision,” Hausknecht added.

The EAA's first-ever football tournament for boys and girls will witness the participation of 34 public and private school teams in three different age categories. Each school team will play three matches to qualify to play in the semi-finals and conclude with a final match, to win the first-ever EAA's Football Tournament 2023.
