(MENAFN- Khaama Press) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women on Monday said the Afghan Interim Government has completely erased women and girls from public life. Guterres further added that the United Nations will continue demanding the fundamental rights of women and girls in Afghanistan under any circumstances.
Referencing to the recent visit of the UN Deputy Secretary General and the Head of UN Women to Afghanistan,“Afghan women and girls have legitimate rights, and we will never stop fighting for their rights until social justice is served,” he said.
Commission on the Status of Women on Monday organized its session to assess the situation of women around the world and will continue until March 17. The situation of women, particularly in Afghanistan will be discussed by representatives from around the world.
In order to ease the pressure and criticism from the international community regarding the gender-based policies barring female students from university education, the Taliban group has termed the ban as“temporary”.
