US National Security Advisor Says Russia Can End War on Ukraine by Stopping Its Attacks

(MENAFN) White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has responded to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims that the West, not the Kremlin, is responsible for the war in Ukraine. Speaking at a briefing in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, Sullivan suggested that if Putin wants to prove his argument, he should stop Russia's attacks on Ukraine, and the war will end. The advisor stated that if Ukraine stops fighting, the United States and its allies stop providing assistance, then Ukraine will disappear from the map. Sullivan emphasized that the war in Ukraine is a “war of choice” and Putin could have chosen not to fight it. He added that Putin could choose to end the war and go home, but as long as Russia continues its military campaign, it is responsible for the conflict.

Sullivan’s comments were made in response to Putin's address to the Federal Assembly, where the Russian President accused the West of causing the war in Ukraine and pledged to continue the military campaign. The White House advisor stressed that Putin’s argument was not accurate, and Russia's actions in Ukraine were the root cause of the conflict. Sullivan's remarks indicate that the United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and will continue to hold the Kremlin accountable for its actions.

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing since 2014, with over 13,000 people losing their lives in the Donbas region. Despite multiple ceasefire agreements, the situation remains volatile, with frequent clashes between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists. The conflict has also strained relations between Russia and the West, with economic sanctions and diplomatic tensions escalating in recent years. Sullivan's remarks underscore the U.S. administration's stance on the conflict and its commitment to supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
