Police Officer And Inmate Die In Prison Shootout

A Police officer and an inmate died in a hail of fire on Friday, February 10, during a shootout between rival gangs inside La Joya prison Two other agents and a prisoner were injured.
The General Directorate of the Penitentiary System reported that the shooting occurred in Sector A of La Nueva Joya.
Immediately, State Security groups and the Ministry of the Interior arrived at the scene to carry out search operations 'to remove firearms from circulation.'
Likewise, they coordinated with the Public Ministry to initiate the investigations.
Family visits to the La Joya prison complex were suspended.
