Trump is behind Republican nominee for governor in 2024

(MENAFN) According to a recent Yahoo/YouGov poll released on Wednesday, Donald Trump would have a difficult time defeating Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the Republican Party's 2024 presidential race, but other contenders might garner enough support for the former United States president to win a majority of delegates in a crowded field.

Based on the poll, DeSantis leads Trump by a margin of 45 percent to 41 percent in a head-to-head contest, which is the same as the 45-42 advantage he enjoyed last month. Nikki Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, is favored by 11 percent of respondents when she is a choice, effectively splitting the anti-Trump vote and giving the former president a 38-35 advantage against DeSantis. Trump leads the Florida governor 37-36 in a field that has been enlarged to include nine potential contenders.

In line with several surveys, Trump has much less support from Republican voters since the congressional midterm elections in November, where the candidates he backed performed worse than predicted. On the other hand, DeSantis headed a Republican ticket in which Florida candidates assisted the GOP win back control of the United States House of Representatives. He was re-elected as governor by the state's greatest margin in 40 years. According to a USA Today survey conducted in December, Republican voters prefer someone other than Trump to get their party's presidential nominee in 2024 by a ratio of over two to one.
