German Vice Chancellor, senior US ambassador support Turkey following earthquakes

(MENAFN) German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday reaffirmed their support for Syria and Turkey after this week's devastating earthquakes.

Before their meeting at the State Department, Blinken stated, "We're both extremely impacted by the images that we're seeing coming from Türkiye and Syria with the awful earthquake that both nations endured over the last couple of days."

"We see pictures of the demolished structures. We observe individuals, including youngsters who are luckily still alive after being taken from the debris, "Blinken remarked.

The senior diplomat mentioned that more than 150 search and rescue professionals have been sent to Türkiye and that the US and Germany are working extremely hard to help Turkey and the Syrian people "in their hour of need."

He said that the US is helping the Syrian people recover from the earthquakes by funding the humanitarian partners that Washington finances in Syria.

"But I know both of our countries are focused on this human tragedy that’s taking place right now in Türkiye and Syria," he added.
