Hat-Trick For Casamento As Wukair Storms To Ras Rokn Island Cup Win

Marco Casamento guided Nasser Saeed Al Eida's Wukair to Ras Rokn Island Cup triumph, sealing hat-trick of victories at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club's (QREC) ninth Al Uqda Meeting yesterday.

The Gassim Ghazali trained six-year-old bay produced the best speed in the final furlong to claim a commanding victory by two lengths and a quarter in the feature – a 2000m Handicap (65-85) for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds concluding action at Al Uqda Equestrian Complex.

Injaaz Stud's Tafaahum, which had Ronan Thomas in the saddle, also showed impressive pace in the QR80,000 race finishing second ahead of Kaswara, ridden by JP Guillambert. QREC Racing Manager, Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi crowned the winners of the feature.

It was also Casamento, who bagged victory in first race of the day steering Mohammed Ghazali-trained Smart Contender to a commanding victory by two lengths and a quarter in 2000m Handicap (0-65) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds.

Al Ghazali Stud's Sha'alan gave Casamento his second victory of the day also completing a hat-trick for trainer Mohammed Ghazali. The five-year-old gelding registered a length-and-a-quarter win in 1300m Novice for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians.

Mohammed Ghazali's second title came in third race of the day when Fatima Bint Sultan Al Dosari's Cloak And Dagger, ridden by Saleh Faraj Al Otaibi, stormed to a massive seven-length triumph in the 1300m Handicap (0-75) for 3YO+ Thoroughbred that only featured the Qatari riders.

Meanwhile, the penultimate race yesterday saw Arnaud De Lepine riding Hamad Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani's Almashahar to a six-and-a-half-length win in the Handicap (0-75) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians after a surge in the final bend.

Also yesterday, Nasser Hamad Al Naimi's Afandem continued his fine run finishing the 1300m Handicap (65-85) for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians two-and-a-half-length clear under jockey Pranil Arvind.

Noora Racing Limited's Ana Hadi was victorious in Maiden for 3YO Thoroughbreds claiming the 1300m run by one-and-a-quarter length. Szczepan Mazur rode the three-year-old colt.

Today's card for the 10th Al Uqda Meeting also includes seven races with Al Judhay Cup at stake in the feature for 2100m Purebred Arabian Premium Maiden, which will see 10 horses in action.
