NATO Military Committee To Consider Situation In Ukraine, Security Challenges Facing Alliance


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) On January 18-19, NATO military chiefs of defence will meet in Brussels, within the first meeting of the NATO Military Committee this year, to discuss the development of the situation in Ukraine and the continuation of assistance in its fight against Russian aggression.

“Admiral Rob Bauer, Chair of the Military Committee, will preside over the meeting, which will be attended by the Allied Chiefs of Defence and their counterparts from Invitees Finland and Sweden,” the statement says.

It is noted that the meeting of the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session (MCCS) will enable the 32 Chiefs of Defence, to meet and discuss issues of strategic importance to the Alliance.

Then, the Chiefs of Defence will focus on early observations from the ongoing war in Ukraine, and the acceleration of the implementation of the NATO Warfighting Capstone Concept and the Warfare Development Agenda, as well as discuss NATO's military capacity and capability to defend the Alliance against all challenges. This will include a discussion on multi-domain operations, digital transformation and interoperability.

On January 19, the Chiefs of Defence will meet with their Kosovo Force (KFOR) operational partners – Armenia, Austria, Finland, Ireland, Moldova, Sweden, Switzerland, and Ukraine.

The final session will see the Military Committee discuss NATO's ongoing support to Ukraine.

The NATO Military Committee is the senior military authority in the Alliance that is responsible for translating political decision and guidance into military direction, and for recommending measures considered necessary for the defence of the NATO area and the implementation of decisions regarding military operations.
