Zamir Kabulov, Russian Special Representative for Afghanistan met with Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi earlier today, and stated that, unlike western states, Russia does not criticize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Hafiz Zia Ahmad, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a series of tweets, that Russian Special Representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov met Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan's Acting Foreign Minister earlier today.

Ahmad in his tweet said that the two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation, the recent development in Afghanistan, and regional issues during the meeting. On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Muttaqi reiterated to Kabulov that Russia is of significant importance in the foreign policy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Furthermore, Mr. Muttaqi appreciated Russia for providing facilities at the Afghanistan Embassy in Moscow, and request Kabulov that Afghanistan should be treated uniquely in terms of customs tariff while engaging with Russia.

The Spokesperson of the Foreign Minister has also written that Russia wants peace and economic development in the country, and unlike, western countries, it does not interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan.

“His country will continue its long-standing cooperation with Afghanistan in many sectors. With good diplomatic ties, Afghanistan can play a decisive role in the development of trade between Pakistan, Central Asia, and Russia,” Russian Special Representative said.

Since the withdrawal of the American forces from the country in August 2021, Russia is one of the few countries which maintained close relations with the Afghan Taliban and allowed the Afghan Embassy to resume its operations in Moscow under Afghanistan's caretaker government.

In September Russian Embassy in Kabul came under attack by terrorists ending in the death of two Russian diplomats and injuring more. However, that did not affect the relations as the two countries kept continuing their official visits on different occasions.
