Iran hires fresh envoy to Afghanistan

(MENAFN) The incumbent envoy's term in office has come to an end, thus Iran has nominated a new ambassador to the neighboring country of Afghanistan.

According to IRIB News, the official news agency of the Iranian state broadcaster, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran's presidential envoy to Afghanistan, will take over for Bahador Aminian, whose three-year term as ambassador to Afghanistan is coming to an end.

In addition to his new responsibilities, Qomi will continue in his current position.

As a result of documents stolen from Fars News in which Aminian denounced the Taliban, there have been reports that he is being replaced as ambassador. The rumors have been denied by the Iranian embassy in Afghanistan, which claims that the modification has nothing to do with the leaked documents.

In order to jointly tackle terrorism, Qomi has recommended the creation of a joint committee with the Afghan authorities.

Kazemi Qomi stated in remarks made after attending the Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan that Iran and Afghanistan must establish a cooperative security and intelligence exchange committee to combat terrorist threats.
