TotalEnergies to search for oil in Lebanon within next year


(MENAFN) The French energy firm TotalEnergies on Monday stated that it is promised to searching for oil in Lebanon's Block 9 area within next year.

The announcement was made after a gathering among Lebanese Energy Minister Walid Fayyad in addition to TotalEnergies chief executive as well as official Patrick Pouyanné at the French firm’s head office.

TotalEnergies also mentioned that a team involving over 10 people is operating and planning the well, and the working team is going to surge to 20 within next year, where it is going to pick a winning rig at that time, after declaring the tender involving the required equipment for the rig action.

TotalEnergies possess 60 percent of Lebanon's Block 9 and Eni possess the remaining 40 percent.

Two months ago, Israel and Lebanon inked a US-mediated agreement to establish the maritime border among the two nations. The agreement covers an area in the Mediterranean Sea, which involves part of the Karish gas sector and Qana, a potential gas sector.
