Italian officials criticize Iranian assault on ‘freedom and democracy,’ urges EU to take action

(MENAFN) Italian officials have powerfully criticized repression in Iran and urged on the EU to act in contradiction of “a Regime which denies freedom and democracy.”
Associates of all Political officials from the Chamber of Deputies, in line with senators, collected in the Senate for a meeting joined via online call by Maryam Rajavi, leader of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.
Sen. Marco Scurria stated that “It is a duty of the Italian Parliament to express support to the Iranians who have been courageously demonstrating against the regime which has already killed nearly 700 people, mostly young.”
Adding, “We do not ask for Iran to become a Western country; we only call for the right of the self-determination of Iranian people.”
Also stating, “They have the right to enjoy their freedom and rights in a state based on the rule of law.”
Scurria also mentioned that the representative of the Senate Ignazio La Russa “expressed his support for this initiative.”
