Moldova to buy 5.7M cubic meters of natural gas from Russia due to energy disaster

(MENAFN) Moldova’s natural gas firm has stated that it is going to buy 5.7 million cubic meters of natural gas from Russia’s Gazprom during this month, after extensive shutdowns in the nation as Russian attacks were reported in Ukraine.

“Starting tomorrow, JSC Moldovagaz will purchase natural gas from two sources. 5.7 million cubic meters will be supplied by PJSC Gazprom under the current contract and according to the approved volumes for December,” Moldovagaz chief executive Vadim Ceban stated on his Telegram page late Saturday.

Ceban also mentioned that the natural gas purchased by the firm is going to be going into domestic energy firm Tiraspoltransgaz “for the production of electricity for the needs of consumers on both banks of the Dniester.”

He also stated that the firm is going to buy 3.5 million cubic meters of natural gas from domestic energy provider Energocom for customers on the right bank of the Dniester River.

“The total daily consumption of the Republic of Moldova in December will be, according to preliminary calculations, 9.2 million cubic meters of natural gas,” Ceban decided.
